How to sync Yahoo Calendar with Microsoft Outlook

  1. Generate a Yahoo app password

    Go to login.yahoo.com, open Account Security, and create an app password labeled SyncCal. Yahoo's primary password will not work for third-party CalDAV clients; the app password is the official mechanism.

  2. Sign in to SyncCal

    Open app.sync-cal.com and create an account using the email you use for either Yahoo or Outlook.

  3. Connect Yahoo Calendar

    Click Add Yahoo, enter your Yahoo email, and use the app password you just generated. SyncCal connects via CalDAV to Yahoo's calendar endpoint.

  4. Connect Outlook

    Click Add Outlook and complete Microsoft OAuth. Personal Outlook.com, Microsoft 365, and Exchange Online accounts all work.

  5. Choose sync direction

    One-way Yahoo to Outlook is common if Yahoo is your personal calendar and Outlook is work. Two-way for users who genuinely edit on both.

  6. Optionally enable Busy-title rewrite

    Cross-account mirrors default to Busy-title rewrite so Outlook colleagues see Busy placeholders instead of original Yahoo event titles.

  7. Verify with a test event

    Create an event on Yahoo Calendar. Within 60 to 90 seconds it appears on Outlook. Reverse direction (Outlook to Yahoo) propagates similarly fast on the Microsoft Graph webhook.

Why Yahoo plus Outlook is awkward without a sync engine

Yahoo Mail still has tens of millions of active users, but Yahoo has not shipped a native Outlook plugin since the 2010s. Microsoft’s Outlook for Windows can subscribe to Yahoo’s calendar as an ICS feed, but that subscription is read-only and lags by hours.

SyncCal closes the gap by speaking CalDAV to Yahoo (which Yahoo does support) and Microsoft Graph to Outlook (which Microsoft fully supports). Both directions are real, both are near-real-time.

When to use two-way vs one-way

Pick two-way if you edit calendar events on either Yahoo or Outlook depending on which device you have in front of you. The classic case is a personal email user who runs Yahoo on the desktop browser but uses Outlook for Android on their phone.

Pick one-way Yahoo to Outlook if Yahoo is purely your personal calendar and Outlook is your work calendar. Your boss sees you are busy at the dentist without seeing the appointment, and you do not accidentally RSVP from Outlook to a personal event.

Questions about Yahoo Calendar and Microsoft Outlook sync

Why doesn't Yahoo Calendar have a native Outlook integration?

Yahoo discontinued its Outlook plugin years ago. The supported path for Yahoo-Outlook sync today is CalDAV on the Yahoo side, which any modern sync engine can speak. SyncCal handles the CalDAV polling so your Outlook calendar gets the events as if they originated there.

Will my Yahoo event titles leak to my Outlook organization?

Only if you turn off Busy-title rewrite. The default for cross-account mirrors is to write the mirrored Outlook event as Busy with no title or attendees. The original Yahoo event stays untouched.

Does this work with Yahoo Mail Plus, regular Yahoo, or Yahoo for Business?

All three. The CalDAV endpoint is the same; only the storage backing it differs. Yahoo for Business may require an admin to allow third-party CalDAV access if your domain is enterprise-managed.

How fast is the sync end-to-end?

Yahoo CalDAV polls on a 60-second cadence on the SyncCal side. Microsoft Graph delta queries fire near-real-time. End-to-end Yahoo to Outlook propagation is typically 60 to 90 seconds. Outlook to Yahoo is 30 to 60 seconds.

Can I sync just one of my Yahoo calendars and leave the others alone?

Yes. After connecting Yahoo, SyncCal lists every calendar in the account. Pick the ones you want mirrored. Birthday and holiday calendars are commonly excluded.

What if my Yahoo account uses two-factor authentication?

2FA on the Yahoo account is fine and recommended. The app password is generated AFTER 2FA is enabled and is the supported way for third-party clients to access the account.
